Britney Spears: Sort of Dissed By The Wanted!

Just a few days after calling Christina Aguilera a bitch (a total bitch, to be more specific), The Wanted is dishing on Britney Spears in less-than-glowing fashion.

The British boy band said in a radio interview yesterday that they were told "not to even look" at the pop princess when they opened for her in concert.

Spears' camp denies, and is far from pleased with the claim.

Britney Spears, The Wanted

"What's even more interesting than these false allegations is the fact that they have claimed to be picked on by two female pop stars in just a few days," her rep says.

"Look out Lady Gaga, there are still three days left this week."

The Wanted said the Spears incident happened while Siva Kaneswaran and their tour manager were looking at a laptop in a hallway. Security ordered them to turn away, supposedly, because Brit was about to come through, they said.

"We faced the wall for about 10 seconds until she got really far away," Kaneswaran said.

When the DJ said they were probably just "messing" with the group, Kaneswaran insisted, "It was serious." His band mate Jay McGuiness did acknowledge that "When we actually met her person to person she was so down-to-earth."

It sounds like Britney had zero inkling of any bad blood here. Spears even tweeted a photo of them together (above), saying "Love them!"

More like loved them.

BlackBerry gets its game on at BBW, scores Jetpack Joyride and Sonic

BlackBerry gets its game on at BBW

One of the things BlackBerry has never really had going for it, is a deep games catalog. Now, that isn't about to change in one fell swoop, but things are about to get a lot better at BlackBerry World 2012. RIM's head of gaming, Anders Jeppsson, took to twitter to let the world know about the impressive pile of titles heading to the PlayBook and BlackBerry 10. The biggest names are certainly Jetpack Joyride, from Halfbrick (the studio behind Fruit Ninja), and Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1. Other games in the pipeline include Galaxy on Fire 2 and Star Marine, while Tomb Raider fans can get down with Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light starting today. Keep an ear out for more to hit during this week's BBW.

Tizen 1.0 Larkspur arrives, fuels your open-source phone dreams

Tizen screen captures

The unveiling of Tizen left many mobile open-source aficionados wondering when the OS would reach its all-important 1.0 status. The answer is now: the coalition between Intel, Panasonic, Samsung and a raft of carriers has posted the first non-beta release in both source code and software development kit forms. The finished versions of either carry new features to reward developers for the wait: SDK users get a new browser-based simulator and a faster emulator, while those scouring the source code will find new point-of-interest and route searching features in location-aware apps as well as WiFi Direct and more HTML5 support. About the only wait left is for an actual Tizen phone to ship.

Why bigger animals aren't always faster

ScienceDaily (Apr. 30, 2012) ? New research in the journal Physiological and Biochemical Zoology shows why bigger isn't always better when it comes to sprinting speed.

"Typically, bigger animals tend to run faster than smaller animals, because they have longer legs," said Christofer J. Clemente of Harvard University, who led the research. "But this only works up to a point. The fastest land animal is neither the biggest nor the smallest, but something in between. Think about the size of an elephant, a mouse and a cheetah."

Clemente and his team studied monitor lizards to show that that the same principle applies within species as well as across species, and to identify why this is the case. Because adult monitor lizards vary substantially in size, they are an ideal species for testing how size affects speed. The researchers timed and photographed monitors ranging from two to 12 pounds, as sprinted across a 45-foot track.

The researchers found that the midsize lizards were fastest-and they discovered why.

Using high-speed cameras and markers placed at key spots on the lizards' bodies, the researchers created computer models comparing characteristics of the lizards' running strides.

"We then looked at how the mechanics of the stride changed with body size, and we found that the changes in the stride were consistent with the changes in speed," Clemente said. "Above a certain size, lizards were changing the way they ran, perhaps due to a decreased ability of the bones and muscles to support a larger body mass."

Testing this phenomenon within a single species helps clear up questions about why the biggest animals aren't the fastest. Large animals tend to be closely related evolutionarily. So it's hard to tell whether slower speeds are due to biomechanical issues stemming from size, or from any number of other factors stemming from a shared evolutionary history.

Looking at individuals within a species rather than making cross-species comparisons helps to eliminate this phylogenetic bias. The results bolster the hypothesis that large size creates biomechanical constraints.

"Larger lizards' legs can no longer support their body weight, and they have to change their style of running, making them slower," Clemente said.

AT&T One X benchmarks pit Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 against NVIDIA Tegra 3

Don't tell Jerry or Phil -- you know how they feel about benchmarks -- but superscientific in our HTC One X forums managed to sneak some head-to-head benchmarks between an AT&T HTC One X that was on display, and his own Tegra 3-powered international HTC One X

Dude runs Quadrant, Nenamark 2 and Linpack, and there's a little back and forth over which one fares better in specific tests.

Now, you never know with demo units in stores -- we've seen them get all sorts of fouled up. But this video might well show you what to expect when the AT&T One X finally is available next week.

This changing anyone's mind over whether dual core isn't as good as quad core?
